Basic Considerations for the Infants:

Examine each room in your home for potential hazards to your youngster. Here’s a list of things that might require your attention.

Bedrooms

  • Remove any cables that might get wrapped around your child.
  • Make electric cords, drape cords, and curtain cords less than 6 inches long and out of reach of your youngster.
  • Mobiles and crib toys should be kept out of reach of the infants. Also, remove the strings from pacifiers and crib toys.

In the bedroom, the crib is the most important piece of furniture. Choose a crib with no more than 2 3/8-inch spacing between bars. Your baby could slip through and strangle between the bars if the space between the bars is too big. Check the width of the space between the bars with a ruler. If the bars are too far apart, weave a cloth between them.

When placing the crib together, keep it away from any wiring.

Corner posts that protrude from the crib should be avoided. Corner posts are an area of the crib that can catch on items wrapped around a kid’s neck or clothing that the youngster is wearing. Also, remove the corner posts by unscrewing them or sawing them off.

The mattress should be snug to the crib’s sides. If an infant’s head or body becomes stuck between the mattress and the crib’s sides, they can suffocate. In between mattress and the crib’s side, no more than two fingers should fit. If the mattress is too small, place rolled towels between it and the crib.

Remove bumpers, cushions, and toys from the crib once your baby can push up, including toys strung across the crib or a playpen. These items can be stepped on or used to climb out of the crib, causing your infant to fall.

Toys

Look for well-made toys that are age-appropriate for your youngster.

  • Toys with sharp edges, small pieces, or sharp points should be avoided.
  • Look for toys with well-attached parts. Toys are pulled, prodded, and twisted by young toddlers.
  • On toys that are likely to wind up in a child’s mouth, look for safety advice on the item or label, such as “Not advised for children under the age of 3,” or “non-toxic.” On plush toys and dolls, look for “washable/hygienic fabrics.”
  • Avoid marbles, balls, ball games, and other toys with parts that are smaller than 1 3/4 inch in diameter or 2 1/4 inch in length. If swallowed, these goods can cause choking in young children.
  • Keep older children’s toys away from newborns and toddlers. In the bathroom

Bathing

Because children can drown in a small amount of water, you should always supervise your child in the bathtub. Never, ever leave your child alone in the restroom or tub, even if it’s only for a minute. Take your youngster with you if you have to answer the phone or the door.

Before placing your youngster in the tub, always test the water. Because young children’s skin is so delicate, they can easily be burned if the water in the sink or bathtub is too hot. Reduce the temperature of your water heater to 120 degrees Fahrenheit or less. Run the hot water from the faucet for 3 minutes over a meat or candy thermometer to check the temperature.

Reduce the chance of your youngster slipping in the tub by putting non-skid rubber mats or decals on the bottom. Ensure that your youngster sits when taking a bath.

To avoid drowning, secure the lid of your toilet.

Also, keep hair dryers and other electrical appliances out of the water. When you’re not utilising them, unplug them. If they fall into the sink or bathtub while plugged in, they can cause an electric shock.

Moreover, never allow your child to run inside the bathroom. It’s possible that your youngster or the floor is moist. If your youngster is running on a damp surface, he or she may fall.

Kitchen

  • Turn the pot handles backwards on the stove.
  • When cooking, use the stove’s back burners.
  • Keep hot foods and beverages out of reach and away from the counter or table’s edge.
  • Put knives and other sharp objects out of reach or in drawers or cabinets that are locked or “childproof.”
  • Keep appliance wires wound up and out of reach.
  • Install cabinet latches on drawers to prevent your infants from smashing their fingers.

Overall tips:

Also, houseplants should be kept out of reach of children. To find out if your plants are dangerous, contact your local poison control department.

At the top and bottom of the steps, use toddler gates. Children can become trapped in the holes of gates with large gaps between the slats. Also, make sure the gates are tall enough for children to not fall through.

Also, cover doors that go to the garage, basement, attic, or outside with doorknob covers. This can assist your child stay away from places they shouldn’t be.

In addition to that, keep children away from windows to prevent falls. Screens are made to keep bugs out — not to keep children in. Use window guards to keep children from falling. Keep chairs and other furniture away from windows so children can’t climb up to the window. If possible, open windows from the top, not the bottom.
